As you say, it is easier said than done. Book publishing is by no means a walk in the park. I went independent on my first book, which meant paying for everything yourself, marketing/promoting, going through red tape with primary sources to get permission to use pictures, articles, etc. In the end, you don't make a darn dime but get the satisfaction of knowing you have a product on the market.
For my second one, I will be making more attempts to find a backer/publisher, but I know what the odds are and what I am up against...it's not impossible by any means, one just has to play the cards right.
If one can break the ice, so to speak, a chronicle like you suggest would be a great benefit for everyone on this board and everyone with interest in the subject! I agree, the book would be a hit!
