I was just talking to Bruce Beveridge today and offered to help figure out a way to design railing decals for the 1:570 Revell Titanic model.
As you all know, on the 1:570, it is very annoying to have solid plastic where the railings should be. In talking with Bruce I asked why not make some decals that could be placed on both sides of the raised areas where the railings are supposed to be? He said others have expressed interest in that idea as well, so I volunteered to try and design a set that would look like railings from a distance, certainly better than the solid plastic on the model as it looks now.
This is not meant to replace the photo-etched railings, but some of us, myself included, do not care to cut off the solid plastic on the 1:570, it is too small for me to bother with. But railing decals are an interesting concept.
Does anyone know the exact height from bottom to top of the railings on the Titanic? What about the height of the posts? And the spacing from post-to-post? The measurements could be converted into a rough ratio to draw the railings, so anyone who has this information please let me know the dimensions if you have that information.
I am not sure what the railings will look like after they are scaled down, but I think we can get a reasonable representation of railings. I am not sure whether they would be reproduced in black or gray, because the real railings were white, but on the 1:570 they have to fit over the white plastic so they have to be a color such as gray or black to stand out.
Any comments from anyone on this idea?
