Yes! While I have never read (nor do I own) this book I cannot comment from my own knowledge, however, I have been told by reliable sources that towards the end of the Gardiner book, that the author quite bluntly states that the entire premise is bogus and that they made the whole thing up.
My biggest problem with all this conjecture - there were thousands of people working on these ships PLUS they were highly visible from many vantage points in Belfast. I have never known any secret that remained a secret once it goes beyond 3 or 4 people, it is impossible that all those workers would have remained silent. To say nothing of the civilians who would have witnessed such changes from outside the shipyard!
This theory was just an interesting exercise in fantasy by the authors - and, after all, it accomplished its goal. Created controversy and sold a lot of books (even if not to me)!
