As Scott mentioned, time is taking a toll. The 'big piece' when the first recovery was attempted in 1996 showed bits of black, white, and you could see where the gold stripe was. In the 1986 footage, the colors were more clear. Today, the pigments are still found producing a lighter rust and a darker rust in areas. In modeling, I'll recommend using different shades of rust in the white and black areas. People want (expect) to see a difference. As the modeler, use your artistic license.
