Wow, you must have a VERY steady hand if you can pull that one off! It seems to me that painting around all the letters would make your decals look hand-painted. I would also imagine that the brush-painted area around the lettering would end up with a very different texture than the spray-painted hull. If you really can do a good job using that technique, you might as well just hand paint the letters and skip the decals altogheter!
: I use all flat colors white,black and red. Before I paint the hull I put small strips of masking tape were the decals go. I paint the hull and once its painted I go over it with a coat of dull coat.
: When I ready for the decals I take the tape off and apply them. Once they are on I use flat black with a brush and go around the decal and between the letters. It works out pretty good
