There was a website somewhere that kept track of all the proposed "new titanics". There were at least 20 or more actual and rumored groups that were going to build a ship. The projects ranged from modern cruise ships which would only have Titanic's name to attempts to approach her physical appearance. To build to todays standards for safety and economy you could at best
try to approximate her physical appearance only.
However, I think when the movie craze died so did enthusiasm for these projects.
Actually I think one could do better if they built an accurate replica and docked her like the
Queen Mary and used her only as a "Grand Hotel" with no cruising. But even enthusiasm (read money) has apparently dried up. Somebody will probably post more rumors but I haven't heard of any Titanic keels being laid to date and we're 3 years post movie.

: Been getting alot of folks through the museum here, after seeing my Titanic Wrecks, asking if I know of the NEW Titanic that is being built for the Ocean Going Public. All I remember is the Popular Mechanics Art Mosaic of the possible design changes that would Have To be made to bring the ship up to current safety standards.
