Don't worry about it in the least. I was not offended but I was wondering what kind of a horribly malformed kit you had gotten! 8-)

We all make mistakes. I ruined one hull really really well. I tried the fix you mentioned with the windows to make the hull look thinner. I didn't try it on the promenade sides but the windows in the main hull. After much work and effort (very hard to work in the limited space inside the hull)- it looked just awful. I broke down and ordered a replacement hull which I did not mess with those windows! I use the ruined one for testing the fit of decks and things (doesn't always work because each hull is shaped a little different -- some are wider and some are narrower -- but it makes a good place to set them while I work on them and before I put them on the good model. Hey we all learn from our mistakes - hopefully!
