Because I don't have well-stocked hobby supply stores in my area when I did my models, I actually used thin strips of mustard colored paper on my 1/570 and used KK to apply it.
For the 1/350, I chose an acrylic goldenrod color (mustard gold) and painted it on. the acrylic is water-based and if I make an error, a little water and it comes off easily, whereas model paint is a pain to correct if an error is made. Once done, I will use a sealer to preserve the lines.

Works for me. Tons of options to achieve similar results.
