Ken Marschall explains this question of funnels lighted/not lighted in the article on Sean's main page (at the bottom). The funnels on Titanic were not lighted at night, he explains, rather ambient light from deckhouse lamps and skylights may have enabled one to see a *little* of the funnels' lower halves.
I don't know of any evidence to support that there were light pods on the sides of the funnels. I would welcome any photo evidence or documentation supporting such!
