Crane's position on wreck; your scenario sound plausible.

From everything I've every heard about that
crane's construction and use, your scenario of
how it arrived at it's final position sounds very
plausible. This crane on the O-class wasn't
power operated insofar as slewing was con-
cerned (for that matter, neither were the similar
anchor cranes on Cunard's trio). Once freed of
the tackle, that crane could have easily been
spun about by the very force that broke the
tackle in the first place. The crane should have
been fairly easy to swing minus the weight of the
anchor, given the bearings this thing must have
riden on in order to allow it to swing with the
full weight of a 15.5 ton anchor.
