Mike:
This was one of our specific questions sent to Ken Marschall. However, an educated guess would be on the cleats on the side of the high fairlead rollers that flanked the mushroom vent between the two hatches in the well deck. These wires would not have been rigged very long. After cargo handling when the ship was underway with no more cargo to handle for days, I believe the wire cargo spans were wound on the reel that was located just aft of the cargo hatch on the forecastle.
