Beware "Anatomy" errors
by

While I applaud Tom McCluskie's efforts in his book "The Anatomy of the Titanic" I think a second edition should be contemplated rather soon. There are numerous photo and illustration captioning errors but I found a textual error that is really way off and it isn't a typo. Quoting from p. 52:
"The centre anchor was of considerable size and weighed 50.5 tons, over six times the weight of the standard port and starboard anchors which weighed 8 tons each." Numerous other sources, most notably "The Shipbuilder" gives the p&s anchor weights as 7 3/4 tons and the center anchor as 15 1/2 tons. It really shakes my confidence in Mr. McCluskie's knowledge of the Titanic when such a monumental error is made. The credits list three other individuals as contributing "additional text". I think this may be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
