I built the revell kit as a waterline diorama a few years ago, still looks good, the railings are scribed acetate, all the deckhouses were scratchbuild from styrene sheet. rigging is rolled copper wire, details are enhanced with technical pen and ink. portholes picked out with silver paint and a pointed toothpick. the model is not an accurate replica, the info 10 years ago was sparse (or is it 11 years ago??) every bit of unwanted plastic, railings and stairs etc. was removed with x acto no 11 blades and an adze, (a small flat scraping blade) and files. the smoke from the stacks is painted steel wool and cotton.
most of the details on foc'sle and poop are scratchbuilt, looks like the model is moving trough the atlantic waves. I like the revell kit very much as a diorama but not as an accurate static replica.
bye.
