The intriguing thought for me is that if have the covers vertical, you can look all the way down to the front cylinders of the recips. I have to believe this was Andrews' idea. The Ole class ships are among the few where the engineers could stand at the base of the engine, look-up, and see the sky! I'm sure they often peered up to see if it was sunny or night. If you mount your covers open, don't install the "glass" part and add the shaft and forward engine room.
