I don't have clear proof it was the crew galley stack. I had heard that a long time ago and the galley does need a stack. The device at the top that comes and goes maybe like the floating top of the stack on a semi-tractor-trailer. Open when theres hot air to vent, closed when it's cold to keep rain out.
