I have been ignoring that structure pipe on the forecastle by the fore mast. Roy said it is the "crew galley vent". I can not find a reference to what exactly it is anywhere. I wouldn't care in most cases because I could just construct it by how it looks and be on my way. However, This shaft appears different in a few pictures. I've noticed in pictures of "T" at Southampton that there is a device coming out of it that looks like a turn handle or something. In other pictures it looks like it's capped off. Kinda like a fence post cap. If I knew what it was I'd understand why it's appearances change in different pictures. In the picture of the Olympics forecastle in T at Two. The vent appears straight vertical and does not even have the slight bend in the base tube. It is capped off in this picture. The movie miniature has the "turn handle" visible. Anybody have any answers?
