On the rigging plan, the aft derrick of 64'-0"
length, rated at 6 tons is shown. On the forward
side of the mast is shown a "step plate for der-
rick; owners supply derrick" given the position
and reach of that derrick it was probably used
for the No. 1 hatch. The rigging plan doesn't
mention where it is stowed, but there are no
clamps fitted to the mast as in the case of the
after derrick fitted by the builder. One mystery
solved, another one created! Such is the
Titanic!
