Mark:
The "Sirocco" ventilator was a type of ventilator manufactured by Messrs. Davidson & Co. Ltd. and were driven by Allen motors to H&W specification.
The desigination "Sirocco" was given to this particular type of ventilator by its manufacturer much like Ford would call one of its cars a
"Taurus". They are basically a round fan enclosure in a square frame. They were versatile in that different types of ducts could be added to them in different positions. They form the basis for the majority of the ventilators. They also came in several different fan diameters. There is a description of them in the original "Shipbuilder" article on the Olympic class liners
on p. 106.
By the way, thanks for the kind words about the inventory.

: Bob,
: Very nice article!
: I have wondered one thing about the vent descriptions. When they call it a "Scirocco" vent, are they referring to a particular type of ventilator or is that the name of the patent, or company that built them?
: I get the feeling that it is a general term used to describe a squirrel cage type fan, but I'm not sure. The reason I wonder because I don't know who actually made the fans, and if it was an outside company, maybe more literature can be found elsewhere (though highly unlikely).
: Obviously, no one can answer this until this stupid server problem is fixed! I'm on the 10th try.
