You will need to be sure you apply the decal over white paint if you try this. Decals printed from a computer printer are not opaque enough to cover black paint, unless your printer will handle the special metallic inks (few do).
You will still need to deal with trimming the strips, as they'll be printed on a solid decal sheet.
