D.P.:
I currently have copies of the general arrangement, rigging plan, hull lines plan
and have just ordered the shell plating plan. These were obtained from Harland &
Wolff Technical Services Archives Dept. in Belfast N.I. They have a list of the
O/T/B drawings the have available on their website. If you wish to contact them
you can do so by snail-mail, email or phone. I would suggest phoning them, as this
is the only way to get ahold of them in a reasonable length of time. They are both
overworked and understaffed, so email gets handled when time permits.
I must warn you of one thing about these drawings: they don't come cheaply!
The bigger drawings such as the hull lines, shell plating, framing and ironwork
are 3 feet wide and up to 60 feet in length in a few cases and can cost as much
as 250 pounds sterling ($417.83 at this morning's exchange rate). If money were
no object, I'd have done a Jim Cameron and just ordered a copy of everything, but
since I'm not that fortunate, I can only buy a sheet every so often.
At this point, I only intend to buy the drawings needed to accurately build the
hull. They are by far the most important ones; if the hull's wrong then the whole
ship will be wrong. Also, I am concerned about continued availability of any of
these drawings. They are all over 85 years old, drawn in ink on linen drafting
cloth. It won't be long before they are too fragile to be run through a plan
printing machine. I hope someone has the good sense to make mylar copies of the
originals, or scan them into a CAD program before that happens.
Regards, Scott
