Scott:
I am not trying to influence anyone to make a new kit of the Titanic or a hull or anything else. Personally I am ambivalent about such an undertaking because while it might be somewhat of an improvement, I doubt that any manufacturer will invest the necessary research and incorporate all the details we have gleaned. So what we will have is another kit with a lot of problems that need to be fixed. At this point in my personal modeling career, I would rather totally scratchbuild so that I am not at the mercy of the efforts of others. I realize that others are not at this point and may never be. That's OK. To each his own. I just enjoy developing the requisite skills to produce everything that is needed for the completed model. That way I either get all the blame or all the credit. I was trying to point up some of the pros and cons of each scale. At one point I wanted to build a 1/96 scratchbuilt R/C Titanic but have since abandoned the idea. My main reason was that after all that work I wouldn't want to expose my work to the elements and to the vagaries of R/C operation and watch my unsinkable Titanic meet the same fate as the real one.

: Your points are very good. While there is no
: denying 1/96 would produce the ideal R/C
: model and also provide a good platform for a
: museum quality model of either type, 1/192
: or 1:200 scale would certainly fit more people's
: living rooms and bank accounts. Lee Upshaw
: is naturally interested in the R/C angle, but as
: wrote to Mark and Jason in a reply today (8/30/
: 98) Lee is not the only person on earth making
: fiberglass hulls. However, as I said to Mark and
: Jason, if we don't address these desires to the
: to the folks who make these hulls, who will
: know anyone wants such a thing. Please read
: the reply I sent out to Mark and Jason so I don't
: have to repeat myself in this reply. If you agree
: with anything I said in that reply and have any
: interest in any sort of good quality large scale
: kit, direct some of your efforts outside this site as
: I am doing, and let as many suppliers of hulls,
: semi-kits or kits know that there is an interest. If
: you find anyone that shows even moderate
: interest, pass the word around so that the rest of
: us with an interest in such a product can pull
: for it as well. The only thing I'm sure of is that
: we'll never get anywhere by just bouncing the
: idea off each other!
: Regards, Scott

: PS - The equipment fits a little tight and the ship
: wouldn't be quite as seaworthy, but you could
: still make a decent R/C Titanic at 1:200 scale.
: I've seen it done to a Yamato and an Iowa at
: that scale, both of which would be close in
: length to a Titanic that scale (Iowa is 887' lg).
