Anyone interested in a large scale
high-quality Titanic model:
Just yesterday I spoke with Mr. Lee Upshaw, owner of Scale Shipyard. He telephoned me in response to
an email I sent him yesterday, trying to interest him in making a large scale hull, semi-kit or kit for the Titanic. Well, it appears he's BEEN interested!
As it turns out, he is actively planning to produce, at the very least, a high quality fiberglass hull of either 1:100 or 1/96 scale, and possibly a semi-kit (laser-cut
decks and superstructure walls and a fittings kit of
some sort). He had someone start making a plug for
the mold almost seven years ago, but it was never
completed. He and another person he works with
are trying to settle on exactly what to produce and
whether to correct any problems on the already
started 1:100 scale plug or start from scratch.
This is one rearson I have offered to lend him my
copy of the H&W hull lines plan, and will lend him
the copy of the shell plating plan I intend to purchase.
I will also lend him my copy of the H&W Titanic
general arrangement.
One thing he is in need of is accurate deck
plans for the exterior decks (Boat, fo'c'sl poop
etc.) and good drawings or photos of things like
davits, winches, cranes, bollards, fairleads,
ventilators, blowers, etc, etc, etc. In a way, we
all have a vested interest in the positive outcome
of the realisation of this project, so please consider helping with any information and/or encouragement you can supply. Lee can be contacted at SCALSHPYRD@aol.com or at (562) 428-5027 in Long Beach, CA. His website is at http://members.
