Bob, Duane, Stein and anyone else:
I have the Taubman 1:100 plans and I also
have the H&W 1/96 hull lines drawing. After
comparing the transverse sections on the plans
from Taubman to the H&W drawing, there
seems to be some discrepancies between the
two. Also, just yesterday I spoke with Lee
Upshaw, owner of Scale Shipyard. He called
in response to an email I sent him, trying to inter-
est him in making a large scale hull, semi-kit or
kit for the Titanic (please see my posts above).
He said he was was also aware of problems in
the hull drawings on those plans in addition to
the problems that Duane points out. I am going
to lend him my lines plan, as it turns out that he
is actively planning to produce, at the very least,
a high quality fiberglass hull of either 1:100 or
1/96 scale, and possibly a semi-kit (laser-cut
decks and superstructure walls and a fittings
kit of some sort). He had someone start making
a plug for the mold almost seven years ago, but
it was never completed. He and another person
he works with are trying to settle on exactly what
to produce and whether to correct any problems
on the already started 1:100 scale plug or start
from scratch. This is one rearson I offered to
lend him my copy of the lines plan, and will lend
him the copy of the shell plan I intend to pur-
chase, along with my copy of the general ar-
rangement.
One thing he is in need of is accurate deck
plans for the exterior decks (Boat, fo'c'sl poop
etc.) and good drawings or photos of things like
davits, winches, cranes, bollards, fairleads,
ventilators, blowers, etc, etc, etc. In a way, we
all have a vested interest in the positive out-
come of the realisation of this project, so please
consider helping with any information and/or
encouragement you can supply. Lee can be
contacted at SCALSHPYRD@aol.com or at
(562) 428-5027 in Long Beach, CA. I don't
remember the URL of his website, but it isn't
difficult to find.
Regards, Scott
