As nearly as I can tell from photos the end of the tackle for the anchor crane was belayed to the forward "hook" shaped part of the double roller fairlead on the forecastle. These fairleads had these "hooks" on either end and the rollers in between them.

: Once again, my best source of photos for this are still in storage, but I can tell you that the block and tackle used to both hold and swing this crane are tied to a point even with the fore
: edge of the second set of fairleads aft from
: the bow (these are the part-cleat-part-cable-
: guide objects at the very edge of the deck) per
: the rigging plans. If you don't have a copy of the
: rigging plan, but have a copy of Cameron's book
: look on page 16. They may also be seen tied off
: to this approximate point in the photo on page
: 60 of Discovery's "Legacy" book and on page
: 85 of Don Lynch's book (Marschall painting de-
: picting Murdoch ordering evasive action). These
: photos aren't clear enough to determine exactly
: what the tackle is tied off to. Photos in "Triumph
: and Tragedy" on pg. 25 center and 60 top right
: also show the tackle terminating at the same
: point, but once again, in one case the second set of bollards on each side hides the end of the
: lines and in the other, the print isn't very clear.
: These lines are tied either to a cleat, an eye or
: to the hooked end of the fairleads themselves.
: I have a number of very clear photos of Olympic's fo'c'sl which would answer this easily,
: but I can't get at them. Perhaps Bob Read or
: someone else knows the photos I speak of and
: has them handy. One thing I can tell you is not
: to pay any attention to the postions used on the
: Cameron sets; they are tied down in front of the
: second set of bollards which is wrong, both by
: photos and plans.

: Scott
