I agree with Scott on this. At the time I was building the model, I had the same problems and after having compared the model to the plans I believe the problem is that the line of sheer is too pronounced particularly in the forward section. The the remedy that I employed was similar to what others are talking about, namely to try to adjust the well deck area to create a smoother transition of the sheer line to the forecastle area. Its a real challenge.
Ultimate solution? Scratchbuild.
