The photo is from a 1976 double issue of the Titanic Commutator about the Olympic. The specific photo credit is not given but other maiden voyage photos like this one are either attributed to the Mariners Museum or the Library of Congress. In later postings we can debate the color. I wanted to get past debating its existence.

Please check out the photos at this link. http://www.txc.net.au/~tp/ The so-called stripe is clearly an architectural feature related to the installation of the plates. The feature is not painted on either Titanic or Olympic. The effect is strictly from reflections as others have so wisely pointed out.
