: Perhaps this discussion has gotten a bit too personal. I looked up two photographs of the Titanic's stern and these are my opinions (emphasise opinion):
: Titanic, Legacy of the World's Greatest Ocean Liner, page 42
: This phtograph shows the Titanic as she left Belfast on her sea trials. You can see the sun shining on the side of the aft well deck (with one of the gates removed) You can also see the ridge in question. The forward part in the sun is the same shade as the hull where the sun's reflection is. As the ridge wraps around the stern it fades to the same color as the rest of the hull. Looking closely, you can just make out the name and registry.
: The Last Days of the Titanic, page 73
: This photograph was taken by Mr. Whyte of Queenstown from the tender America as it approached the Titanic. You can see the same rigde around the stern of the Titanic. Again, I believe that the shading is caused by the sun. As the ridge wraps around the other side, it fades to the same shade as the rest of the hull.
: I will send copies of the photographs to Sean for posting if he sees fit.
: Best regards,

Hey all you Titanic-ans,
I was just wondering if anyone has contacted Harland and Wolff to find out their opinion on the matter. After all, they built the thing, and who better to get your information from, right?
Anyways, Sean, great website, I've found it to be a huge help. Keep up the awesome work.
