No doubt about it..it is a raised line similiar to
what would have been on clipper ships of
the latter 1800's i.e., the Cutty Sark, Thermopylae and Flying Cloud. I'm of the opinion
that the line probably only goes as far around as the poop deck, and not all the way around the
ship, as on the above mentioned ships. More than likely this line was colored either gold or the
same color as the main stripe around the ship, as sailing ships for the most part had black colored hulls with gold decorations. The
stern quarters of the Olympic ships are the
same shape as the above mentioned ships
(a holdover from the era of sail, perhaps?)
