: It seems that new anchors are discovered every day by people who are interested in the Titanic! Exactly how many anchors did the Titanic have? Can you get retrofit anchors to add on to the model, or do you have to scratch build them?

Hello Russ,

I have counted 5 anchors. The two that the model provides plus 3 that are not in the kit. These are located as follows:

1. Bow anchor on forecastle deck at prow. This sits in a sunken deck depression again, not provided for in the kit. Any Marschall painting of the sunken ship will show it.
2. A small anchor lays flat on the forecastle deck on the starboard side behind the splash guard. Marschall paintings of the sunken bow will show it. Look immediately above the well deck on the extreme stern end/starboardside of the forecastle.
3. A small anchor (similar to the one behind the forecastle's splash guard sits upright on its side at the stern of the ship. It is just starboard of the centerline near the flagpole. The part of the anchor that the chain would attach to is attached to the deck in a bracket located near the starboard's stern most fairlead. Check out the photo of the Olympic's poop deck in Ballard's Discovery Of The Titanic to see an actual photo of it. Page 26-27 of Illustrated History by Lynch and Marschall also has a photo of the stern end of the Titanic where you can see it. These two anchors are smaller than the ones with the kit while the bow anchor is larger. Steve and I build them out of stretched sprue and sheet plastic.
