We make a lot of fittings in many scales, but most
are naval ship subjects. To make an odd-scale set
of an existing GMM set costs about $450.00. This
covers the necessary computer time for changing
all the parts' line weights (necessary for larger
and thicker parts), scaling everything up, making
the new tooling (matched set of negatives) and
special packaging for these oversize parts.
We're able to sell our existing sets at low
prices because we can sell in larger numbers if
the parts are designed to go with popular kits.
Then we make our money back in quantity of sales.
But there's no profit in making parts for
scratchbuilders because everyone uses different
scales. So the price skyrockets due to the one-off
nature of these special sets.
When you get your own business running and
have to earn a profit to survive, you'll see what
I mean. Trust me.
