When I built my first Academy model over 20 years ago, I took a shortcut with the WSL gold band by using gold pinstripe tape. It looked good at the time and sidestepped the problem of painting the darn thing. Trouble is, 20 years later, the tape has peeled off, leaving the band hanging down the side of the ship. Also, I have learned since then that the band is more a mustard colour than gold. I have bought the model again and intend to paint the band this time (among other improvements). Some perspective for the newer Titanic model builders -- when I bought this model originally, the wreck had not been discovered and the conventional wisdom at that time was that the fore peak railing came to a point? Now, thanks to the wreck and Cameron's movie, EVERYONE knows the fore peak railing wraps around. So much for those who have said that we'll never learn anything new about Titanic!
