Yes-- it's a problem. On the model that I built, now on-display at the Queen Mary (there was a message posted on the board about it on 5/24) I admittedly compromised, and simply put a light, red cardboard square to represent the sign. It's far from perfect, but from even a few feet away, lettering would be illegible anyway, and the general effect is the same. Also, rather than attempt to recreate White Star insignias on the bows of the lifeboats, I also painted a red dot. Again, from as little as a foot away, it looks the same as a flying White Star banner.
