: hi i have the titanic model from academy and minicraft and i finished it but had no strings and things like that my question is how can i get strings on it again without taking the decks a part cause if i do that i have a feeling i will not be able to fix it and im not taking any chances
: thank you
If you have never rigged the model before you should be able to do it with little difficulty. I left all the rigging off of my model until the end steps. Using fishing line cut as many sections as you need and to the appropriate lengths. I then dabbed one end of the line into a pool of CA glue on a gluing block and placed the end into the hole on the deck. Repeat this for each line you are attaching. Once all lines were tacked to the deck holes I added a tiny bead of CA glue to the line and hole area using the tip of pulled sprue dipped in CA glue. Each deck line and hole was touched up with the additional application of CA and the tiny sprue end allows for neat placement of the glue bead. After all the holes were done the deck lines were reinforced enough for allowing the other end of the lines to be attached to their destination points (masts or funnels etc). This allowed for the line to be pulled somewhat taut and secured. Whether doing masts, funnels, or Marconi lines, i had no difficulty in applying the
rigging at the last and in fact it allows for much easier interior deck work when the cables are not there. Fishing line makes this project much easier than the thread provided for in the kit. When all cables were dry and secure I painted them flat grey to reduce scale and provide for a better visual appearance. If you are re-rigging rather than rigging for the first time you will need to clean out the deck holes with a small drill bit first (or a push pin) to make room for the line's end to pass through. Use caution on the boat deck/A-deck cables so you don't push the cable through so far you see it dangling underneath along the A-deck promenade. This procedure works great and is recommended over the kit's instructions.
