Apparently, the staff at Engineering besides producing the magazine, published books on the ships and the works of the shipbuilders. SMU has two such books:
The Cunard White Star Quadruple Screw Liner "Queen Mary" constructed by Mssrs. John Brown & Co. Clydebank 1936
Vickers, Sons and Maxim Limited, their Works and Manufacturers 1898
Also Engineering in half year volumes start in 1866 to 1941, then 1941 to 1976. But not contimuous, they have issues missing!
Previously I thought Engineering started in 1899.
The photographs are their photographs, made on site when the ship was built. I have not seen them elsewhere. There are not advertisements in Engineering, no pictures, but I would bet the expositions were a source of heavy advertisements. They were complete expositions of everything mechanical of the time. Also each ship in Engineering ususally has several excellent photographs of their engines, including the controls. I saw a number of triple expansion, and quadruple expansion engines in the 1909 and 1910 Engineering.
The Engineer which is bound the same as Engineering and is labled in the readers guide as the same text at SMU they have 1856,1858,1860,1861-1862,1867,1868-1975
Also there was the New York version of Engineering, which became the magazine "Industrial Management" and is mainly a civil engineering magazine.
