Building and completing a very detailed 1/350 Titanic using Bruce's Decals, Loren's fittings and all the help here can teach one alot. I really miss working on that fine vessel that now proudly adorns the entrance foyer of my house. So,I broke down and bought the 1/570 from Walmart with the intentions to assemble it 'out of the box'.
All of that quickly changed when I saw that a heck of a lot of stuff was messed up because of those solid railings. The structures on the boat deck were twice as high because of it. It is amazing what one can do with a sharp x-acto knife, variable speed drill with mini drum sander, and file in an afternoon. All that crap is gone! Gosh, I feel so much better. Railings and decals are now on the way and a search for a tiny set of drill bits is in progress. (1/64" or so would work) I ain't gonna use plastic masts again I can promise. I will also fix a few inaccuracies that I didn't bother with on the 1/350. I am now very excited about the 1/570 and I see a great ship coming here. If you have finished your boat and find yourself gazing out the window on a winters day, I strongly urge you to try this kit. It is far from being the committment that the larger ship requires.
I think I have it figured out now. The 1st ship was a practice, the second and smaller version is More practice. For what? OK, here goes. A third and final 1/350 will be built next winter . I really like that Olympic conversion. It should be fun for a Boathead.
