I will look at all of the Engineering type of magazines I can find, Jane's Fighting ships is an excellent source, so is Scientific American. They have Cassier's, The Engineer,The New York Times, and various local papers from the turn of the century.
Newspapers had ads. But the problem with Engineering and other early magazines is the photographs were expensive, so a lot of things are advertised in print only. Engineering will have explanations of ship parts and machinery, only if it is a new thing.
There are social magazines that might have references to the decorations of the ships. Harpers and all of the Progressive magazines of that era were full of photographs. I would suggest going to your local library, or city library, call first, and look at their magazines from that period of time. Engineering libraries at major univeristies are a great source, but a good library with historical information may bring good prospects as well. My library is closed until the new year.
World Expositions , like the Crystal Palace, or the Paris Exposition, were a common thing at this period of time, perhaps someone has their catalogues on file. Art works and Art design were heavily covered by magazines and newspapers of that era. Perhaps someone knows someone at Sothebys or Christies or any antique dealers, to find sources on this type of material.
Take a look at the resources Harland and Wolff would have access to in that period of time, all of the great designers at their call, to design a ship that would carry all of their customers! This was a great opportunity to show off their work and insure their business sucess.
I'll see what i can find.
