Robert: This question is similar to others presented on the board, when you get to the actual construction of the hull, people tend to forget the thickness of the materials used. I have seen a few questions on how one forms the hull, the hull line as it were. The only way to see it, is to build the ship according to the plans, or if you are fortunate enough to read the plans with an architect or engineer's point of view. That point of view is hard to explain to those who do not see the ship in three dimensions, and it is hard to explain what we mean when we speak about objects and their relative positions on the plans.
In my ships, I built the tank top, the bulkheads and then the machinery, leaving the exterior skin for later, so everything matched up and the positions of the rudder, the propellers, the propeller shafts were all correct, before I built the decks above. Since the shape of the hull is based on the positions of the machinery, it was necessary to to build the machinery to get the hull right. All according to the plan. When I build the Lusitania, I perceive interesting problems with its machinery.

Sincerely,

James Pepper
