You can use Squadron model putty, which comes in both white and green colors. You can also use auto repair filler, such as Bondo, in small batches. Because it is a two-part putty, and chemically "cures" instead of "air drying," it sets up fairly fast.
You can also use the thicker super glue mixtures for small seams, but build it up gradually.
Any time you sand down the putty, it is wise to put masking tape or some other protection as close to the area to be sanded as possible to avoid "collateral damage." This also applies to applying putty, so you don't get it in places you don't want it and have to work doubly hard to remove the excess.
