: If there were enlarged images of the three ships, there would have to be text either below the photograph or on it explaining some of this stuff. There are pictures that show the entrance door to the C deck 2nd class promenade on the Olympic's aft well deck, for instance, that would be the same on the Titanic, but I wouldn't want people to think they have to add the tall cowls coming out of the #4 hold covers that would also be visible in the photograph from a 1930's Olympic. Do all of you understand? In other words, there would need to be explanations and in some cases, text written on the photographs. I don't want people to start looking over or around the subject matter in certain picture because something in the background may not be accurate to the Titanic. This is really true in the later Olympic pictures. They added a lot of weird stuff on that ship.
: I would like to hear from Sean, Mike and Russ as to how we would share these pictures amongst the three websites, and who has the time to do this. Will it get expensive? I know nothing about ISP's. If there were a picture gallery of high resolution scans, is there a MB limit? I suppose I could super enlarge an area on my scanner, and then resample the resolution form that to knock down the size.
Bruce, we (Steve and I) would be more than happy to handle the Olympic information for you. Sean should get first dibs on Titanic, and Russell for Britannic. In the case that they do not want or can't do it, we can take those on as well, but we prefer they handle those to coincide with their ship specific websites. We handle all ships so making a home for the Oly is no problem. As we have been doing, we create thumbnails for the page preview areas and then explode them to size for viewing or downloading purposes. There tends to be a 1 meg limit on e-mail size. Using photoshop we usualy alter size and quality of pics to reduce their size without sacrificing too much detail. As you may know we are going to be developing an extensive Ship History section and Historic Photo section for visitors' benefit that wish to go beyond just the modeling aspect. The door is open on The Debris Field for what you wish to submit and if we broaden this idea as an IMM Group project then that can spread the material around so websites that have size restrictions do not have to consume all space or link out everywhere to showcase the material. We are open to any ideas that best suit this project but I think we can all agree is to make the material available to as many modelers and ship enthusiasts as possible. We will endeavour also to credit you with contributions and proper text descriptions for each photo submitted so the viewer knows exactly what they are looking at and if the material is applicable elsewhere. Opinions?
