I know about the thing that looks like an electrical conduit running up at a ninety degree angle in the Browne photo, but if you look, there is nothing behind it. It is to small for a water main and I would never believe that they would want, or need, to run an elevated water main over to the mast (if this is what you were talking about). I have searched over some other H&W liners and ships and have found these boards and supports to be commonplace. I'm not so much saying they are for hanging wet canvas to be dried. They are for hanging canvas to keep the water off of the passengers who want to be outside in rainy weather. A fly of sorts. I have seen that conduit thing on other ships. I thought I sent you that picture once of the Grantully Castle showing the same type of thing, didn't I?.
I think that if we were to get a better picture of that conduit, you would find that at the end of it is a "U" shaped piece of steel, and this IS the support for the forward side, and that a bolt runs through it to secure it. This is what I think I can see in the Grantully Castle photo. There are already two electrical conduits running up the mast from the deck for the docking lights any way.
