: Next, does one need to route the fiberoptic ALL the way from where it is placed (eg. port hole, upper decks etc) to the lightsource...OR does one only need to have the fiber so long and merely pointed in the direction of the light.

I am in the process of building a lighted Titanic. The farthest is the tip of the FO, the weakest is the resulting point of light. For one, I routed FO all the way from nearly each decklamp and crane lamp to the light sources (2 X 6.5 w bulbs). The longuest are those from poop deck cranes that must be routed behind aft end of the rear well deck.

To my experience, it is capital to check each and every joint for light leak all along the process. Light leak at bizzare places, as tinny as it coulb be, catch attention of the viewer and is quite disturbing. Frequent check before definitive action is mandatory. Carefully make opaque all walls (My choice is heavy coat of Silver paint), especially each ceiling and wall part molded in white plastic.

Joe's FO website is a very good source of information. I adopted the combine way of illumination (Incandescent with FO) and it works fine. However I'm looking for a way to make light sources less direct.: I mean that I dont want to actually see the bulb filament shining and blinking threw portholes as I move along the ship. Any idea ??
