Color photgraphy was in its infancy in 1912, was not practical, and belonged more to those experimenting with it for artistic purposes. The earliest true color photo I've seen is from around 1910 and the colors are very saturated. It's in the latest issue of Life magazine, FYI. As has been discussed before, the only chance for an actual White Star Buff sample is to find a spot on the wreck where the funnel metal flanges are and scrape a sample, providing the flanges are external funnel metal. Even then certain pigments may have degraded over the years.
