I used, for my Revell model, a 2B pencil. Most ordinary pencils are categorized as HB, which works almost as well, but the softer lead pencil offers a higher gloss, simulating glass even better than the ordinary pencil does. They both look good, however, so don't feel you have to go out and buy an artist's pencil just to color in the ports. I already had the pencils from college...
