: At the outset let me say that I am 100% opposed to an organization that is separate from the website.
: Yours is not necessarily a bad idea. I just think it has the potential for too many unintended consequences. The primary problem I see is that
: as a separate organization I can forsee a day when
: the desires of the organization might conflict with those of Sean. I can see the organization
: trying to exert influence on Sean to change HIS website to meet the oganization's needs.
: That is absolutely the last thing I would like to see happen. If a separate organization is where
: this would be headed then I would disassociate myself from it. I would also drop my original idea for just putting a name to our group.
: Thanks for bringing the subject up because it is an issue that really needs to be addressed early.

:Bob,
I have belonged to, chaired, sponsored and completely run organizations throughout my life. The reason for being seperate is so that WE DON"T influence Sean. If we are too tied in to the webpage, the problems that you spoke of will have a better chance of happening. We operate seperately under the sponsorship of the webpage. Whenever there has been strife or posturing or takeover or influence, whatever you want to call it, in any of the organizations I have been associated with it is because those desires of the organization and the desires of the person in charge conflict. Thats where the split occurs. If we are seperate, Sean remains autonomous in HIS website. If we are too connected and the majority disagree with Sean over some issue, hypothetically, then it has the potential to cause strife within the site. If we have a disagreement and we are seperate, then Sean runs the page as usual without interference. I see it in reverse to the way you do.

You aren't wrong, I have just seen too many organizations fail because of little issues that cause riffs and they expand into full blown power struggles. Sean already owns the site, so his position is secure. We want to make sure it always is, but, I don't think any one person should have complete control over it either.

So that explains my reasoning.....just more food for thought.
Regards,
Jerry
