Good luck with Tulloch!
I tried getting a response from their web site and they were so kind as not even bother responding! You would have better luck going through Charlie Haas. He may have enough influence to pull it off but if they ever do get a paint scraping, I doubt they will hand over a color scheme without a lot of money involved.
As for finding a crewman from Olympic? another dead end. Even if you could, what good is an old mans remembrance of a funnel color? It seems that the people on this board want the actual color or nothing. This is understandable but unless H&W finds an old paint bucket in the basement, it ain't gonna happen.
To Doug May: I bought that Testors light tan. I haven't applied it anywhere yet to see what it looks like after it dries but from the outside of the bottle, it looks good. I would just add some red to make it a little peachy.
In response to some last posts. Ken Marschall's paintings have not changed that much in recent times concerning his funnel colors. It is more the outcome of the printing process then it is his artwork. Perhaps his much earlier paintings differed in color but his recent stuff should be good. If you listen to what he said about his new book, he said that the colors were fine on certain pages (the numbers of which I don't remember). On top of that, I have color video footage of the builders model. Video can change the appearance of colors but this looks real close to Kens work. In my opinion, Kens stuff is as close as anyone will ever get without, as I said, finding an old paint bucket or paying off Tulloch to do something other then what only serves HIS interests. ( who the hell is going to go down there and get a scraping of a funnel just to make us happy? ) Ken has visited every museum that has held or holds a White Star builders model. Yes there other models out there of other White Star ships. Ken is an artist above and beyond anything. You may not be able to hold him to the detail accuracy of some of his Titanic paintings but I personally feel comfortable in trusting his eyes for color matching.
If anyone wants to pursue getting a paint chip, good luck. Anybody out there close to France? if so, go and check the Normandy.
