: One area that I don't think has ever been explored in this area is the wreck itself. If they were able to retrieve painted funnel fragments, sophisticated color analysis could be done to determine the original colors. They do this with historical homes where original colors have been covered over by paint, wallpaper etc. I have seen them do this a few times on "This Old House" where Bob Villa was visiting the restoration of an historical home usually in New England. They are able to compensate for age, oxidation, staining, deterioration, or what have you. The level of scientific expertise is quite high. This kind of analysis would eliminate the "human factors".
: Until then its hit and miss.

Bob,
I totally agree. I think one way of approaching this idea would be for ALL of us to fire off emails to George Tulock and RMS Titanic, Inc. Maybe he could clip a section or small piece off of the platforms where the funnels once were. He could just take the one of his underwater robots on his next trip to her and cut or tear off a small fragment for analysis. I'm sending an email to him today. I am going to start at his web site and trace from there. Hope we all can do something to get this area of concern approached as a group.
Regards to all,
Jerry
