Dear Bob & Mike:
A large full page picture of the lifeboat being hoisted onto the Carpatia is on page 328 of Titanic & Her Sisters by McCluskie, Sharpe & Marriot. The preceeding pages have the boats heading to the Carpatia. Another source for detail could be the patents on these boats. I know of the patents on the Welin Davits. I remember reading something in Engineering Magazine, maybe not the deck plans issue but another issue explaining the hoisting mechanism. Other issues of Engineering have other plans including schematics of the Engine Room and most of the mechanical parts to the ship are illustrated in one article or another. Discrepancies in Britannic and Olympic could be explored in "Engineering"
Hope this was helpful

: I'm not near my books at the moment but here's a couple of leads to follow. I know the photos, I just don't have the references at the moment.
: The first photo is of the Titanic's lifeboats collected at the harbor in New York. There are a number of White Star employees (I believe from the Olympic) who are standing in them) The photo is taken from above so you can see the interiors very clearly. As far as color goes these are b&w photos so all you could gauge is shade.
: Another group of photos are those of the lifeboats coming alongside the Carpathia. The quality of these photos aren't as good as the first ones I described.
: The third I believe is in Triumph and Tragedy. It shows one of the Titanic's lifeboats being hoisted on deck. The boat is tipped so that the interior is visible.

: If you need specific references I'll do some digging.

: Regards,

: : Looking at the page 44 Exploring The Titanic Marschall painting I notice that Ken paints the interior all dark brown. When looking at the Titanic lifeboats on page 168 of Illustrated History it appears as though the interiors are slightly lighter than the gunwale colour (dark brown). Does anyone know exactly what colour the interiors were with regards to the flooring, seating, etc.? I am working on a project and the correct information would be appreciated. I have considered J. Cameron's movie as a possible source but wish to be as certain as possible about colouring.

: : Cheers, Mike
