probably bronze. If it were steel then it would have had to have been painted to stop rust.

: The skylight covers had a circle in the very center. This is true for all three sisters. Since I have now seen part of the actual "Titanic" G/A's on a video I have, I can now say that this is true. The center circle is dark in pictures. I can see the circular object in an Olympic construction photo. I don't know if it was made of glass or steel, probably steel. It looks like a spacer or a center support for the cover. Remember that the cover we all see on the dome structures in pictures is actually an outer cover over a solid cover where the panes of glass are mounted. If you were to pull it off you would see the circular dome thing in the center and all the windows that are a few inches high. The cover placed over them make them flush. You can see this in the Marriott book. The page number escapes me but it is the picture of the Olympic under construction taken from the crows nest looking aft.
