Scott,
simply put, pulled sprue is taking the plastic part 'tree', or, the plastic grid all the model pieces are attached to, and, breaking off sections of the rounded bar, holding it over a candle flame and pulling outward, creating a thin, plastic rod you can make smaller components with.
