: Thought I'd mention that after building several wood models like the Victory and Beagle,I used various makes of rigging line but coated them in Stockholm Tar made by Floquil.This not only gives a suitable 'ancient' appearance but seems to protect against humidity changes also.It seems to stay quite flexible and doesn't 'crack' when you work with it.I don't know if Floquil still makes the 'tar' or is even still making anything but I'm sure a suitable alternative could be found.
